Why did your Turbochger fail?

When a turbocharger fails, first and foremost, you need to diagnose the cause of the problem.

Signs of a failed turbocharger include loss of power, smoke, high fuel consumption, turbo overheating and oil leaks.

If you hear a whistling sound from the turbo, there are three possible internal causes:

1: This could be due to air/gas spills due to pre-turbine gas or air leaks. You need to check the joint immediately. If the commotion continues, check for turbo clearance and wheel contact.

2: The problem can also be caused by lubricant degradation. When the oil breaks down, it promotes the formation of carbon in the bearing housing. Carbon development will soon start limiting rotation.

3: Other factors that can cause the rotor to stick are a drop in oil pressure and dirt or debris in the lubricating oil.

It is also possible that the turbocharger has been damaged by external materials, so remember to check the turbine wheel or compressor wheel. You will observe any external material entering through the turbine or compressor casing. In case of damage to the blades, the turbo will be completely damaged. Look for the metal falling from the turbine in the intake duct. Metal particles at this stage may cause harm to the engine.

Once you confirm that there's a problem with your turbo, it's time to choose a mechanic to help you fix the problem. Make sure you go to someone who has experience with turbocharging. Make sure your auto mechanic does a thorough inspection of the turbo. Usually, the turbocharger can be repaired by a skilled mechanic by replacing parts, removing impurities, etc., only when the blades of the turbocharger are seriously damaged, the turbocharger will be scrapped. So a new turbocharger needs to be replaced.
